Wonder 3 / Amazing 3

Fifty-two episodes were edited and dubbed in Miami, FL at Gene Prinz's studio, Copri International. Using the same group of writers and actors that dubbed "8th Man," "Prince Planet," and "Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot" the results were quite good and the series moves quickly with lots of direct-to-the-point non-stop-action in the classic Tezuka style, along with zany, madcap humor - (do you ever get tired of Modern Amimes where the characters spend all their time standing around flapping their jaws, or worse, multiple "snail-crawl" camera pans of their angry faces and minutes-long "gotta-get-naked-fly-around-change-costumes-power-up" sequences)?, PLUHLEEZE.

The Wonder 3 from Japan were renamed "Amazing 3" in America

Japanese tidbits: The Wheel, Patrol A3's unassuming vehicle is reported to travel at speeds of 5000 kilometers an hour! A3 brought with them an "anti-proton" nuclear device...an anti-proton bomb is also mentioned in Astro Boy #102 -- "Planet 13". The Japanese DVDs of "Wonder 3" contain a newly discovered 70 second ending (which isnt drastically different than the 60 sec. ending).

This storyline concerned Three Aliens from an unnamed planet which looks like a Big Eye, (which means they are watching us, right?)
They are three members of the InterGalactic Galaxy Patrol Unit A3, Buko, Boko, and Noko, or Capt. Bonnie, Corporal Ronnie, and Lt. Zero depending on which language you are speaking! As it happens the Assignment of the Day is to travel to Planet Earth to determine whether or not the Earth and its peoples are worthy to survive! Apparently Alien Beings on unnamed planets in the Milky Way may have felt just a littel threatened that someday the Earth People would eventually gain enough knowledge and the ability to Destroy them, so y-not beat us to the punch?
...just an educated guess.

Anyway, they brought this "solar bomb" with them which looked alot like a bowling ball with antennas sticking out of it - which supposedly contained the energy necessary to blast us to Kingdom Come.

Earth had exactly one year...(not much time is it?) and then - Boom! unless we all became peace-loving, non-warring creatures who were all the essence of benevolance....yeah, like I said, One year and then - BOOM!

Hmmm, Bonnie had a pretty nice figure...until transformed into a rabbit =^___^=

This is the names of the crew - (again, in case you already forgot) Capt. Bonnie, Corporal Ronnie, and Lt. Zero, sounds about as threatening as McHale's Navy, doesnt it?
Well, back to the story, upon arriving on the Earth, these three aliens decide that to avoid alarming anyone they need to be able to move around on the Earth without attracting any attention, they needed a disguise. So they used this device that transformed them into animals...And became Buko, Boko, & Noko, became Bonnie the Bunny, Ronnie the Horse, and Zero the Duck.

Capt. Bonnie Bunny is the leader and she is the most level-headed of the three, she is also the cutest with her round fluffy tail and long black-tipped ears (which BTW remind you of a certain white lion)!
Bonnie is the most compasionate, and reluctant to blow-up the Earth...she thinks that there is some good in all men.

Corporal Ronnie is a brilliant inventor and he can build any kind of gadget or machine that may be needed fo the occasion, he does this quite speedily too and the raw materials for his creations seem to come out of nowhere, just an observation, OK - I know its a cartoon! Aside from that, he is the goofy one and for all his marvelous abilities he doesnt have much common sense and sometimes his inventions do more harm than good!

Lt. Zero is a grouch and he would prefer to just get it over with, use the bomb and go home, the only redeeming feature he has found on the Earth is our music, which he attempts, and fails to emulate, indeed he seems to be wearing a beatle-wig - Zero's favorite instrument is the guitar, and he is known to even shimmy a little, a la Elvis.

An Earth boy, Kenny Carter is the only human who knows their secret, later on we are introduced to Kenny's older brother, Randy - who is a secret agent for Phoenix, a secret agent-type organzation, of course. The stories and plots often involve Randy and the Phoenix organization, and InterSpy the Phoenix Agency's major enemy.

A3 Videotapes

Unfortunately, few decent recordings of it exist in English.
We are lucky enough to have located one of the better tapes. Neener, neener.

I lifted this internet posting from the defunct “Yesterdayland” site, an excerpt which supplies some interesting information... "I loved the show when it aired in LA in the mid-late '60's. But it didn't air again until I was in junior high...One summer, KCOP-13 aired the Amazing 3 at 6:30am"..
That was most likely the Summer of '74 when the new V-Cord machine was released. This makes perfect sense because what is available on video is about 10 episodes, that were recorded off broadcast TV, KCOP in Los Angeles with a "V-Cord" video tape recorder, a flash-in-the-pan early attempt at a 1/2" video cartridge system -- that had more in common design-wise with the Sony U-Matic than the VHS "M-wrappers" in use today. And most existing copies are poor, I dont think even the original tapes were that great in the first place. V-Cord didn't have a rotary or “flying” erase head so every time they cut for a commericial there is a major control track loss - that only gets worse as the generations increase.

This is one of the series rumored to be wiped-out film-wise, all the 16mm film prints being destroyed in a nitrate-fire, but thats probably untrue, somebody has squirrled away prints of this series, but doesn't want to share.
